Meet a Team Brainrunners team member

Hi I'm Heather Escaravage and I will running the 5K portion of the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K for Team Brainrunners. I have run several 5K runs in the past, with the most recent being the Green Sock Half & Shamrock'n Race this past March. I'm looking forward to trying to better my time, while running a route I don't usually get to run. Now let's hope for a clear day and fast feet!

Fundraising Ideas

Some people may be in a little bit of fundraising rut but fret not because there are always little things we can do to get that ball rolling a little faster. I found my fundraising total sitting at the same spot for quite some time and I was also getting a little tired of just asking everyone for money. So I made some cupcakes and brought them into work with me. I sent out an email letting people know there were cupcakes in the kitchen with a small donation requested and I also put my online fundraising page link in the email in case people wanted to make a donation online. Not only did I have a blast decorating the cupcakes, with mostly unrecognizable designs on them, but I also managed to increase my fundraising total significantly and I am now at over 50% of my goal! So if you have any fundraising ideas please share them with the rest of us.

Can anyone guess what the decorations on the cupcakes are?

Meet the Team Brainrunners team captain!

Hi I'm Janis McKell and this is my first half-marathon. Well actually this is my first competitive race since highschool. So now you know where I'm coming from. I work within the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and I am excited to take part in this event as a participant and a fundraiser! the idea came to me through a challenge from someone else, and I have now made it my personal goal to finish for the sake of raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Join me and out team members as we blog about our training goals, struggles, and anything that pops up along the way.

Vancouver Canucks’ Mason Raymond, Honorary Chair of the Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge, encourages everyone to ‘run for the sake of others'.
